Tools for Conviviality
The text Tools for Conviviality by Ivan Illich, published in 1973, follows its precursor Deschooling Society and results from the exchange of many participants at the CIDOC in Cuernevaca, Mexico.
For the seminar On hammers and sandcastles we wil make an attempt at understanding the ideas (or at least in parts) behind Tools for Conviviality. Its contents could be sectioned into:
- A conclusions from Deschooling Society
- B when tools become means to an end
- E the threshold of a convivial or manipulating tool
